GENERATION OF COMPUTER:-
-::GENERATION::-
Generation is computer terminology is the change in technology. A Computer is being used initially. That generation turn was used to warying hardware technology.
There was totally 5 generation none till that ---
(1) First generation.
(2) Second generation.
(3) Third generation.
(4) Fourth generation.
(5) Fifth generation.
-:: First generation:-
The period of first generation is 1946-1959. That generation based on VACCUM TUBES. This tubes like electric bulb produced a lot of heat and were prone to frequent fusing of the installations , therefore,were very expensive and could be afforded only by very large organisations.
- In this generation mainly batch processing operating system were used . The computer in this generation used machine code as programming language.
- Some Computer of this generation ENIAC , EDVAC , UNIVAC , IBM701, IBM650.
-:: Second generation:-
The period of the second generation is 1959-1965 . That generation based on TRANSISTORS were cheaper consumed less power,more compact in size,more reliable and faster than the first generation machine made of vacuum tubes .
- In this generation assembly language and high level programming language like FORTRAN , COBOL ,were used .
- There were Batch processing and Multiprogramming operating system used.
- The computer of this generation is IBM1600, IBM7094, CDC1604, CDC3600, UNIVAC1108 .
-:: Third generation:-
The period of the third generation is 1965-1971. That generation based on INTEGRATED CIRCUIT. A single IC has many transistor , registers and capacitors along with the associated circuitry.
- In this generation Remote processing ,Time sharing, Real time ,Multi-programming operating system were used .
- High level language FORTRAN -ll to lV , COBOL, PASCAL,BASIC,ALGOL-68 etc were used during this generation.
- Some Computer of this generation were IBM360series , HONEYWELL -6000 series, PDP,IBM 370/168,TDC 316.
-:: Fourth generation:-
The period of the fourth generation is 1971-1982. This generation based on MICROPROCESSOR. Fourth generation used very large scale integrated circuit (VLSI). This generation computers became more powerful, compact insize , reliable and affordable. As a result ,it gave rise to personal computer revolution.
- In this generation Time sharing,Real time, Network,Distributed operating system were used.
- All the higher lebel Language like C and C++ ,D Base etc were used in this generation.
- Some Computer of this generation were DEC10 STAR1000, PDP2, CRAY1(super computer).
-:: Fifth generation:-
The period of the fifth generation is 1882 to onwards .This generation based on ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.
- This generation based on parallel processing hardware and AI (artificial intelligence) Software.
- All the higher level language like C and C++ ,JAVA , NET etc are used in this generation.
- Some of the computer in this generation LAPTOP, NOTEBOOK, ULTRA BOOK , CROMO BOOK, DESKTOP.
Thanks ...............
Go ahead and keep it up
